Fredrick A. McKenzie - Lakeland F.A. McKenzie went to heaven quietly on April 12, 2016, after 102 years on this earth. He was born in 1913, in Fort Pierce, Florida. Fredrick graduated from Lakeland Senior High School in 1937. After High School, he attended Tulane University, and then went on to receive his Mechanical Engineering degree at Auburn University. While at Auburn, Fredrick was affiliated with the Pi Kappa Alpha fraternity. The McKenzie family""s business, Atlantic Dredging & Construction Company, was well known for their dredging and excavation work throughout Florida. Their company did extensive flood control projects in the Everglades for the U.S. Army Corps of Engineers, dredging for the original Sunshine Skyway Bridge, and dredging and filling what is now Tierra Verde. Fredrick also worked on other notable projects, including the Chesapeake Bay Bridge, and was the wetside supervisor for Royster/Mulberry Construction Company. Mr. McKenzie was a long time member of College Heights Methodist Church in Lakeland. He played golf for many years at Cleveland Heights Golf and Country Club, and was a 33"" Mason. Mr. McKenzie was preceded in death by his wife of 55 years, Maxine Davis and his parents, Fred and Sadye McKenzie. He is survived by his son, Fred McKenzie; daughter, Virginia Glass; three granddaughters, Linda Sue Coley, Rene Foley, and Lisa McKenzie; and two great-grandchildren, Ian McKenzie and Haley Foley. Fredrick was the Patriarch of the McKenzie family. He was known for his kind soul, and gracious heart. He will be greatly missed by his friends and family. A graveside service will be held at Lakeland Memorial Gardens at 4:00 PM, on Sunday, April 24, 2016. In lieu of flowers, donations may be sent to Good Shepherd Hospice, 3470 Lakeland Hills Blvd., Lakeland, Florida 33805.
