Frances Ivy Browne, 84 Secretary, State of Florida Lakeland - Frances Ivy Browne, 84, of Lakeland, Florida, passed away on December 31, 2014, after a short battle with cancer. Her final days were spent surrounded by family and friends. Frances was born on November 30,1930, in Lakeland, Florida. She grew up in Lakeland and graduated from Lakeland High School. She and her husband, Al, were married in February, 1949. She worked as a secretary at the Department of Agriculture and Florida Department of Transportation, retiring in 1992 after 36 years of dedicated service. After retirement, Frances and Al divided their time for many years between Lakeland and their home in Maggie Valley, N.C. In her spare time, Frances enjoyed quilting; but her real passion was baking. Her specialty was the Hummingbird Cake. Family and friends also looked forward each Christmas to the tins of delicious treats that she lovingly prepared. She was a member of First Presbyterian Church of Lakeland. Frances is preceded in death by her parents, Hildred and Sim Ivy, Sr., and her brothers, Sim Ivy, Jr. and Bill J. Ivy. She is survived by her loving husband of 65 years, Albert L. Browne, son, Stephen (Joy) Browne, grandsons, Andrew (Chrissy) Browne and Ryan (Amanda) Browne, great grandchildren Devin Elizabeth and Conor Stephen Browne, sister, Jeanette I. Penkert, numerous nieces and nephews and the rest of her family and friends. A memorial service will be held on Monday, January 5 at 4:00 p.m. in the Chapel at First Presbyterian Church, 175 Lake Hollingsworth Drive, Lakeland, Fl.
