Eugene Williams 1925 – 2019 Eugene Williams entered heaven with a glorious welcome Monday, January 28. For the last 19 years chronic hip and foot pain made mobility difficult, but he bore his affliction with quiet endurance which was a hallmark of his character. Eugene was born May 16, 1925 in Wellington, Alabama to Charles and Pearl Williams. Eugene was preceded in death by his parents, brother Charles and his wife Ruth. Eugene was drafted into the Army when he was 18 years old and participated in the D-Day invasion as well as serving in the European War Theater. Wounded in Germany from an explosion, he was to hear news of WWII’s end while recovering in the hospital. For Eugene’s service during war time he received a purple heart and four medals. After the war Eugene came to know Christ and heeded the call to ministry. His preparation included a BA from Southeastern University and a Master’s degree from Auburn University. At Southeastern he met his wife Ruth (Hardy) and they married September 9, 1950. Three children followed with Kenneth (Susan), Faye (Joe) Lenna and Stephen (Lisa). Ministry as a missionary sent his family to Kinshasa, Congo followed by a later trip which sent him along with wife Ruth to Dakar, Senegal. Ruth partnered with Eugene to pioneer and pastor churches in Florida, Georgia and Alabama. Eugene is survived by his 3 children, 5 grandchildren and 5 great-grandchildren. Eugene lived a life dedicated to the call of His Savior as a young adult and even into his retirement as pastor to four Methodist congregations and volunteering as a Bible teacher while in assisted living. Funeral services will be held Monday, February 4th, 2019 at 11:00 am with a viewing one hour prior at Heath Funeral Chapel. Committal will follow at Florida National Cemetery at 2 pm.
