Eugene Taylor Davidson, Md, Facp, Mace

December 23, 1930 " November 21, 2012 Dr. Eugene Taylor Davidson passed away peacefully at home on November 21, 2012 due to cancer. He was 81. Gene was born on December 23, 1930 in Birmingham, Alabama to Elizabeth Taylor Davidson and Marion Tabb Davidson. After receiving his undergraduate and medical degrees at Vanderbilt University, he completed his internship, residency and specialty training in Endocrinology at Barnes Hospital in St Louis, Duke University and also at Vanderbilt University. As a Captain in the U.S. Army, he served at the U.S. Army Research Laboratory in Fort Knox, Kentucky. He came to Lakeland, Florida in 1962 as the 24th doctor of the Watson Clinic and practiced Internal Medicine and Clinical Endocrinology for 38 years until his retirement in 2000. During his long career, he received many honors and was recognized as a leader in his field. Most notably, he was the founding member and president of the American Association of Clinical Endocrinologists (AACE) in 1991, president of the Florida Diabetes Association, Florida Endocrine Society and Florida Society of Internal Medicine. Eugene was also a Fellow (FACP) and a Laureate Award recipient of the American College of Physicians, as well as a Master of American College of Endocrinologists. He was active in the American Diabetes Association, the American Federation for Clinical Research, the Florida Medical Association, the Endocrine Society and the American Society of Internal Medicine among other professional associations. He was also a Clinical Associate Professor at the University of South Florida. Following his retirement, he was an active volunteer at Lakeland""s Volunteers in Medicine Clinic. He was predeceased by his parents, a brother and a sister. His wife of 28 years, Judith James Davidson, four children, E. Taylor Davidson Jr. of Lakeland, FL, Anne M. Davidson of New York, NY, Elizabeth D. Lee of Dallas, TX, Helen (Lynn) M. Cutchin of Los Angeles, CA and six grandchildren survive him. A memorial service will he held at St. David""s Episcopal Church, 145 East Edgewood Drive, Lakeland, Florida, 33803 on December 6 at 2pm.
