Elizabeth Duke Mack

Elizabeth “Betty” Duke Mack Rock Hill – Mrs. Elizabeth “Betty” Duke Mack, 93, went home to be with her Lord, family and friends on Thursday, June 01, 2017 at Brookdale Spring Arbor. Born in Forsyth, GA, on December 1, 1923 she was a daughter of the late Kennie Norris Duke and Irene Blissett Duke. After graduating from Lakeland High School, Lakeland, Fla., she joined the Navy and became a WAVE. She was stationed at Parris Island, SC and was attached to the hospital Corp. After servicing her country, she graduated from Florida Southern College in Lakeland with a B.S. Degree in Social Sciences and then taught school for 30 years in Polk County School district. Betty taught at Lakeland Junior High School and retired from Crystal Lake Junior High School. When Betty was not at school she could be found at Southside Baptist Church working with the Sunday school, teenagers, the kitchen, seniors or singing in the choir. Betty was married to Francis Murray Mack, Jr. of Fort Mill, SC for 56 years. Betty and Murray were world travelers, visiting the Holy Land multiple times as well as all of Europe, Russia and China. Betty is survived by her daughter, Dee Talkington (John); two grandsons, Jason Talkington (Gaby) and Justin Talkington; and two great-grandchildren, Kaitlyn and Ryan Talkington. The family wishes to thank the staff at Chandler Place, Rock Hill for many happy and fun years. Our thanks and love goes out to the entire Brookdale Spring Arbor staff for excellent Assisted Living Care, especially Teresa, Shirley, Debbie, Heather, Maranda, Robin and Shereka. Also, our thanks and love goes out to the entire staff at Brookdale Memory Care. Special love to Debra, Penny, Stephanie, Joseph, Angela, Brittany, and Shelisha. A graveside service will be held at 10:00 am on June 6, 2017 at Oak Hill Burial Park, 4620 US Highway 98 South, Lakeland, Florida.
