Elinor Mundy

July 6, 1939 — April 13, 2016

ELINOR ANDERSON MUNDY, 76 LAKELAND - Elinor Anderson Mundy died on April 13, 2016 due to complications of Parkinson's and heart disease. Elinor was born on July 6, 1939 in Brewster, FL, to Bill and Beulah Anderson. At an early age she moved to Lakeland where she graduated from Lakeland Senior High in 1957. In high school she was active in many activities, including service clubs and cheer leading. She later attended Florida State University before she transferred to Florida Southern where she graduated in 1960. Following graduation, Elinor and husband started their careers teaching in Fort Meade. She taught for 22 years, first at Riverside Elementary in Fort Meade and later at Floral Avenue and Bartow Elementary, and finally at Oaks School in Bartow. Her last years in teaching were spent with homebound students who were sick and unable to attend regular school. Following her retirement due to illness, she took up painting, where she spent countless hours painting with watercolors. Elinor loved the outdoors, which influenced her style. She painted with gusto for several years and became an award-winning artist until Parkinson's prevented her from continuing her most valued hobby. She was a long time member of the Bartow Art Guild as Vice President and later as President. She named her art website TheArtOfSurvival.com, again showing her creativity and insight. Elinor also spent many hours watching senior softball tournaments and especially enjoyed the friendships she enjoyed with the wives of other players. She loved to travel to North Carolina as well, where she and her husband spent many wonderful vacations in Waynesville and Maggie Valley. She loved to go whitewater rafting, tubing on the river, and hiking in the mountains- passions her children inherited. She loved pets as well and her beloved dog Luke was literally always by her side. She was preceded in death by her parents William and Beulah Anderson, daughter Cheryl Mundy Fennelly, and son William David Mundy. She is survived by her husband of 57 years, Wayne Mundy, son Kenneth Wayne Mundy, son-in-law Patrick Fennelly, grandchildren Leah Fennelly and Collin Fennelly, sister June Gaines and several nieces and nephews. She was a member of Bethany Christian Church, sang in the chancel choir, and participated in the Bethany Book Club. The family extends their heartfelt appreciation to Nancy Rodriguez and Maria Salinas for their loving and professional care in helping take care of Elinor for the last four and a half years. Services will be held at Bethany Christian Church on Monday, April 18th at 3PM. Visitation will be from 2:15 to 2:45. In lieu of flowers, donations can be made to Florida Methodist Children's home, PO Box 6299, Deltona, FL 32728-9888; Bethany Christian Church, 4224 Pipkin Creek Road, Lakeland, FL 33811 or Good Shepherd Hospice, 105 Arneson Avenue, Auburndale, FL 33823. - See more at: http://www.legacy.com/obituaries/theledger/obituary.aspx?n=elinor-anderson-mundy&pid=179625738#sthash.pUFUd2N1.dpuf Service: 04/18/2016 Bethany Christian Church 4224 Pipkin Creek Road, Lakeland, FL 33811
