Eleanor Smith

Eleanor Smith, 85 Homemaker Lakeland - Eleanor Smith, 85, passed away peacefully on Friday, February 15, 2013 due to cancer after having a long and wonderful life. Eleanor was born in Fairmont, WV and held a Bachelor""s degree from the well-known Eastman School of Music in Rochester, NY, where she was trained as a performance soprano. In her early years, she performed lead roles in theatrical productions of Broadway musicals, of which her favorite was \"South Pacific\". She was a soloist for many church services and for a professional entertainment group, performed with USO tours, and also sang opera. Eleanor captured her audiences wherever she performed. Later, Eleanor had a commercial cheesecake business. Everyone loved her cheesecake which she continued to make privately for special occasions. She was an excellent cook and loved to entertain, socialize, travel, and be with her family and friends. Eleanor leaves her son and daughter-in-law, Douglas and Holly of Massachusetts, her brother Harold of California, her niece and nephew, Tricia and Greg of Winter Haven, her devoted companion, Robert of Lakeland and New York, and her many friends and neighbors in the community where she lived.
