Edward E. Murphey, 87, passed away peacefully of heart failure on December 6, 2013. Born in Palmetto, FL, he moved to Tennessee at an early age where he lived until retirement from GMAC. He then moved to Lakeland in 1986 where he enjoyed travel and golf. He served in the US Marine Corps and attended The University of North Carolina. His passions included camping, hiking, tennis and running. For many years he led his son""s scouting groups on hiking and backpacking trips in the Tennessee mountains. He will be remembered for his integrity, robust sense of humor, and absolute commitment to family. He is survived by his wife of 64 years Marian; daughter Karen (Michael) Leffel of Johnson City, TN; son Mike (Cyndi) Murphey of Lakeland; granddaughters Kristen Leffel and Lauren Murphey; and grandsons Grant Leffel and Lance Murphey. Services to be held at a future date.
