Eduardo F. Morrell, (Ed) passed away Tuesday, January 24, 2023 at Lakeland Regional Hospital, surrounded by his family and friends. He was born to the late Roberto I. Morrell and Teresa A. Morrell on July 23, 1962, in Lakeland, Florida. The Morrell family immigrated to the United States from Cuba in 1960. Ed was proud of his courageous Cuban heritage and his entire family.

With the exception of his college years, Ed spent all of his life in Lakeland. He is a graduate of Lakeland High School (1980); the University of South Florida where he was a member of Phi Delta Theta Fraternity (B.A. degree 1984) and Cumberland School of Law, Sanford University (Juris Doctor 1988).

After law school, Ed returned to Lakeland and began his law career. He established himself as a reputable attorney and became active in the community. Soon after, he met and married Shannon Howze from Bradenton. They have been happily married for 30 years. They have a son Alston who is a junior at the University of Health Sciences and Pharmacy in St. Louis and a daughter Susannah who is a sophomore at All Saints Academy in Winter Haven.

Ed was a senior partner with McIntyre Thanasides and also maintained his own practice as Morrell, P.A. He specialized in Real Estate and Commercial Litigation. Over the years he has served in the following capacities: member of The Florida Bar (Member, Small Claims Rules Committee, 1996-1999; Trial Lawyers Section); Attorneys’ Title Insurance Fund, Inc. Advisory Team; Florida Bar Foundation; Former YMCA Board of Directors; National Association of Credit Managers (NACM) and Credit and Financial Development Division (CFDD); Polk County Real Estate Council; Willson American Inn of Court, 1996. Ed was a devoted husband and father, and a great brother, uncle and loyal friend. Along with his family, whom he adored, Ed loved the outdoors! His routine was fishing at Boca Grande in the spring and summer and hunting in the beautiful woods of Myakka in the fall and winter. Ed especially enjoyed his many responsibilities as a cattle rancher. He often rode his horse in the round-ups with the hired cowboys. He was an avid fan of the Florida Gators Football team sometimes knowing names of the new recruits before their identity was known by the media. Ed treasured the hours he spent watching his daughter Susannah in her equestrian competitions. He was also very enthusiastic about youth baseball and encouraged his son Alston to excel in this sport.

Ed is survived by his wife Shannon; son Alston; daughter Susannah; mother, Teresa Morrell; brothers; Roberto (Tina), Gonzalo, Ignacio (Kim), Jorge (Karen); sisters; Teresa Morrell, Celia Nolin, Maria Martinez; mother and father-in-law, Sharon and Tommy Howze; sister and brother-in-law, Lynn and Stephen Carlsen; many nieces and nephews whom he loved nearly as much as he loved his own children; and many, many dear friends.
