Edgar Hall

April 20, 1927 — June 4, 2016

Edgar (Ed) Hall began "Travelling West"" on June 3rd at 89 years of age. He was a warm, generous soul who possessed much humor. Ed was born in Wilkes-Barre, PA and raised four sons with Kathryn (married 53 years) in Vienna, VA. The last 28 years, he enjoyed living in Lakeland, FL""s Sandpiper retirement community. Granddaughters Kelcie (21) and Paige (19) made Ed beam with delight. Ed, an aspiring pianist, left high school early to serve in the Navy as an airman radio operator during World War II. He later flew Jewish refugees from Europe to Palestine in 1947. Ed parlayed his aviation experience into a 35 year air traffic controller career, principally at Washington National Airport. Baseball, bowling and poker comprised Ed""s recreational pursuits. He initially umpired baseball, then guided the 1972 Vienna, VA All-Stars to the Little League World Series in Williamsport, PA. He was honored by the Town of Vienna for his dedication and mentorship of many young men. A man of strong character and determination, he admirably persevered for the past 25 years after a major stroke without complaint. Ed always put the interests of others above his own. His legacy is imparted to his two sisters: Dorothy & Lillian Jane; brother: Bill; sons: Guy, Gary, Glenn three daughters-in-law: Thelma, Leandra & Elaine; granddaughters: Kelcie and a slew of friends. He was preceded in death by his sister Elizabeth and wife Kathryn. Ed will be interred with military honors at the National Cemetery in Bushnell, FL.
