ROBIN NATHANIEL WOOTEN, M.D. Psychiatrist LAKELAND - Dr. Robin Wooten, surrounded by his loving family, passed away peacefully of lung cancer on Tuesday, August 7, 2012 at the Palliative Care Unit at Lakeland Regional Medical Center. He was born in Shelby, NC on December 15, 1936, to Robin and Sara Margaret Wooten. He graduated from Davidson College in Davidson, NC, and from the University of North Carolina School of Medicine in Chapel Hill. He completed his Internship in Straight Surgery at the University of Kentucky School of Medicine in Lexington. Robin completed his Psychiatric Residency at UNC in 1970. During those years, he was chosen Fellow for the Group for Advancement of Psychiatry and received the Best Resident Award. He moved to Lakeland in 1970 and began his thirty-eight years as psychiatrist at the Watson Clinic where he was Chairman of the Psychiatric Department for many years. He was Chairman of the Department of Psychiatry at Lakeland Regional Medical Center from 1991-1993 and from 1997-2002. He also practiced in Ocala and in Wauchula. Dr. Wooten was included in Top Psychiatrists in America, 2007-2008. During his career, Dr. Wooten was a member of the American Medical Association, the American Psychiatric Association, the Florida Psychiatric Association and the Polk County Medical Association. He was recently elected by the APA to be a Life Fellow in recognition of his significant contributions to Psychiatry. Robin is survived by his family: Janet, wife of 21 years; son Ashley Wooten of Lakeland; daughters Katharine Wooten of Plant City, Liz Antaya (Jason) of Lakeland; Alexandra Jenkins of Lutz; and grandchildren Adam and Carmen Antaya. Family will receive friends on Friday, August 10th, 5:00 pm - 7:00 pm at Heath Funeral Chapel Tribute Center. A Celebration of Life Memorial Service will be held the following Friday, August 17th at 2:00 pm at First Presbyterian Church on Lake Hollingsworth. A reception will follow in the Welcome Center.
