M. Brittain Moore, a well-respected physician in Lakeland, Florida, passed away on December 25, 2015. Dr. Moore was recruited by Watson Clinic in 1964, and was the 31st physician to join the Watson Clinic. Dr. Moore served our community as a physician specializing in dermatology at Watson Clinic until his retirement in 1994, ending an outstanding 30+year career with the Watson Clinic. He was a Fellow of the American Academy of Dermatology, served as president of the Polk County Unit of the American Cancer Society, the Polk County Medical Association and in 1982; Dr. Moore was the President of the Florida Society of Dermatology. He served on the Vestry of St. David""s Episcopal Church, where he was a member since his arrival in Lakeland. Dr. Moore was the son of Milton Brittain Moore, Sr. and Octavia (McNair) Moore of Jacksonville, Florida, where Dr. Moore was born and raised. Dr. Moore earned his undergraduate degree in Chemistry (with honors) at Emory College and his medical degree (with honors) at Emory School of Medicine, both divisions of Emory University in Atlanta, Georgia. He held leadership positions in both, serving as President of Sigma Alpha Epsilon Fraternity at Emory College, and President of the medical school class his senior year. Following graduation from Emory University College of Medicine in 1956 and his internship at the Veteran""s Administration Hospital in Atlanta, Dr. Moore fulfilled his military obligation with the U.S. Public Health Service, assigned to Internal Medicine in Louisville Kentucky, specializing in communicable diseases. Dr. Moore also trained in Nuclear Medicine and germ warfare research. Dr. Moore then moved his family to Houston, Texas, and completed his dermatology residency at Baylor University College of Medicine in 1962. He transferred to the Center for Communicable Diseases (CDC " now Center for Disease Control) in Atlanta where he was director of the Venereal Disease Research Laboratory. Dr. Moore married Ann Martin of Shellman, Georgia, on August 9, 1953, and shared 51 years with his bride until her death in 2004. Dr. and Mrs. Moore had two children, Mary Moore Perren of Dallas, Georgia, and Laura Moore of Atlanta, Georgia. Dr. and Mrs. Moore had three grandchildren, Patricia (Perren) Fannin, Elizabeth (Perren) Weathington, and Samuel Perren, and 3 great-grandchildren. A scholarship fund has been established in his name at Emory University School of Medicine.
