Dr. Jack Quitman Sharpe

December 3, 1928 — August 17, 2023

Dr. Jack Quitman Sharpe left this world to live eternally with his Heavenly Father on August 17, 2023. He was 94 years old. A devoted believer in Jesus, he lived out his long life serving his Savior and his fellow saints. He pastored churches from the time he was 17 years old until he was in his 80's. He earned his Ph.D. at the University of South Carolina while providing counseling at the USC Veteran's Administration. He taught at Southeastern University from 1969 until 1976. He then started a counseling center in Salem, Oregon at Christian Center Church. In 1980 he returned to Southeastern University until his retirement in 1999. After retiring, he continued his ministry at various churches, including as interim pastor at Shepherd Road Presbyterian Church and as a counselor at Victory Assembly of God.

A gifted speaker, Dr. Sharpe's sermons, intellectually compelling, moving, and humorous, numbered in the thousands. In addition to pastoring several churches, he spoke at "camp meetings," revivals, conferences, and on various media platforms from as early as 1943.

Through his years of lecturing and guidance as a college professor and as a mentor, his work has influenced and supported many subsequent ministries. A true academic and bibliophile, collecting and reading books remained a cherished activity throughout his life, particularly on subjects of theology, psychology, history, science, politics, and law.

Dr. Sharpe's compassionate and skilled counseling helped many people through deeply troubling times of life as well as very happy times, such as pre-marital counseling. He was an empathetic listener and a solid encourager.

He was predeceased by seven siblings, his first wife, and first great-granddaughter. He is survived by three sisters, his wife, three children, ten grandchildren, many great grandchildren, nieces and nephews. His family could not have loved him more, and he could not have loved them more. He will be deeply missed, but his family rejoices he is with his Savior.
