Dorothy S. "Dot" Pritchard

Dorothy S. Pritchard ""Dot"" February 1, 1925 " March 20, 2014 Dorothy was born and raised in Norfolk, VA to an Italian immigrant family. She was of Catholic faith and dedicated her life to her family and friends. She died after a long courageous battle with melanoma. Dot, as she was called by her friends, came to Florida in 1952, as a young bride, after marrying George Holmes Pritchard of Plant City. She was a loving wife and mother and who chose to be a homemaker. She loved Lakeland and the many life long friends she developed here. She was a long time member and volunteer of NGA, the Needlework Guild of America. She was a buyer for boy""s clothes until school uniforms came to be. She served on the Board until she was no longer able due to illness. She liked to travel and loved the game of bridge, where she was long time member of two bridge clubs. She was preceded in death by her husband, George Holmes Pritchard, and her sister Caroline Whitehurst, Mother and Father who lived in Norfolk, VA. She is survived her two daughters Robin P. Young (Vance) of Columbia, S.C. and Kimberly P. Ruthven (Greg) of Lakeland. Four grandchildren; Lauren and Brandon Clark of Winter Park, Henry V. Young III who lives in Japan, Gregor Ruthven of Lakeland, and Emily Young of Seattle. She recently enjoyed the birth of her great granddaughter, Georgia L. Clark. She also leaves behind two nieces, Thelma Whitehurst of Norfolk, VA, Margie Whitehurst of Virginia Beach, VA and a nephew Frank Whitehurst and family of Powhatan, VA. Additionally, a very special friend Carol Bennett, Norfolk, VA who called her ""auntie"". Also dear to her heart, are Barbara and David Prosser and their family. She always called them her adopted-extended family. A celebration of life will be held on Saturday at 1:30pm at St. Joseph""s Catholic Church.
