Dora Miest Garrett

Dora Miest Garrett, 88 Homemaker Dora Miest Garrett, devoted wife, beloved mother and grandmother passed away of heart failure on June 16, 2013. Dora was born on September 5, 1924 to Herman and Berta Miest in Breslau, Germany. She came to the United States with her parents in 1927 and became a citizen in 1946. She married J. Gerald Garrett in 1950, moving to Lakeland, in 1961. They created a loving home for their three daughters and shared sixty three wonderful years together. They were longtime members of First United Methodist Church of Lakeland and the BYKOTA Sunday School Class. Dora is survived by her husband, Gerald: daughters, Lyndal (Ed) Lynn of Atlanta; Pamela DuBose of Lakeland; Sandra (Rick) Norman of Plant City; grandchildren, Amy (Paul) Alley; Garrett (Kathy) Norman; Melissa Lynn; Kimberly Ross; and Kathryn Lynn. A memorial service will be held at 1:00 pm on Wednesday, June 19, 2013 at First United Methodist Church in Plant City.
