Dee Lois McCollum, 88 Artist, Poet, Writer and Pilot Lakeland " Dee Lois McCollum was born September 26, 1923 and passed away January 17, 2012 due to cancer. Dee loved to fish and garden. She was a private pilot and was one of the founders of the ladies flying club; ""The Grasshoppers"". She was an artist who owned and operated her own art gallery; ""Paintin Place"", in Highlands, N.C. for over 25 years. She was also a published writer and poet. She was dignified, interesting, unique, and gifted. She was preceded in death by her son, Harry Clifford McCollum, III. Dee is survived by her daughter, Tara Mueller, and son-in-law, Jay Mueller of Lakeland, FL, granddaughter, Dikola Bragg of Hendersonville, TN, granddaughter, Hayley Hurd, Lakeland, FL, and four great grandchildren. The family will receive friends for a celebration of her life on Saturday, January 21, 2012 at 10 AM at Heritage Baptist Church, 4202 S. Pipkin Creek Rd. Lakeland, FL. 33811.
