Connor McVeigh Fennell, 83 City of Lakeland Lakeland " Connor McVeigh Fennell passed away on April 19, 2011 due to complications of dementia. Mr. Fennell was born in Fairfax, South Carolina on August 29, 1927. He moved to Lakeland in 1943 and graduated from Lakeland High School in 1944. Mr. Fennell served in the U.S. Navy during WWII in the Pacific Theatre. He and Trudy Henry were married in 1950 and together raised three children. Mr. Fennell was a printer by trade, who operated his own printing business for many years. He also worked for the City of Lakeland and retired from there in 1993. He was a member and former deacon at Parkview Baptist Church. In the years 1967-1973, Mr. Fennell volunteered with the Lakeland Lumberjack youth football organization. ""Big Chuck"" as he was known, loved the time and all the people he worked with on that football team. His pride in the young men he had known was evident in the memories he would share for years afterward. He is survived by his wife of 60 years, Trudy, son Chuck (Judy) of Auburndale, daughter Connie Battaglini (Raphael) of Niceville, FL, daughter Julie Olender (Andrew) of Lakeland; seven grandchildren, and nine great-grandchildren. Additionally he is survived by his sister-in-law Jane Brown of Lakeland and numerous nieces and nephews. Visitation will be held from 5pm to 7pm on Friday, April 22, 2011 at the Tribute Center at Heath Funeral Chapel. Funeral services will begin at 11 on Saturday, April 23, 2011 at Parkview Baptist Church, with Pastor Steve McGee officiating. Burial will follow at Oak Hill Burial Park. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to Good Shepherd Hospice; 105 Arneson Avenue, Auburndale, FL. 33823. A special thanks to the staff at Good Shepherd Hospice for their care and love.
