Clifford Ward Yost, Jr

November 16, 1937 — October 17, 2019

Clifford (Bill) Ward Yost, Jr. passed away on October 17, 2019. He was born in Fort Des Moines, Iowa on November 16, 1937, to Clifford Sr. and Cecil Yost. Like his father, Bill proudly served in the Army. His favorite assignments were as a missile ground mechanic at Redstone Arsenal, Huntsville, Alabama, 1955-1958, and as an information services machine mechanic at the Army Security Agency, Herzogenaurach, West Germany, 1962-1964. After leaving the Army, Bill began a long career in computers, beginning as a hardware engineer and finishing as a technical writer. IBM took Bill & his young family overseas to Guam and Kwajalein in the mid 1970s. There he discovered jogging and gave up smoking as a gift to his wife after her mother died. The whole family was quite surprised and impressed with his gift to all of us. Bill is survived by his loving wife of 59 years, Sandra M. Yost; his children, William (Bill) Yost (Nanette), Ruth Yost Kashulines (Peter); his grandchildren, Paula, Jonathan, Jericho, Leah; and 3 great-grandchildren, Bree, Zoee, Saydee, with a fourth on the way. A memorial service will be held at 4:00 pm on Monday, October 28, 2019, at Heath Funeral Chapel, 328 S. Ingraham Avenue, Lakeland, FL 33801. Interment will be at the Masonic Cemetery, 1550 48th Street, Des Moines, Iowa 50311. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to the Sioux City Iowa Railroad Museum, https://www.siouxcityrailroadmuseum.org/.
