Christopher Brian Earl, 76 Lakeland- Christopher Brian Earl, 76, passed away of complications from pancreatitis on October 16, 2014 while surrounded by his family. The youngest of six children, Chris was born in Morden, Surrey, England. He graduated from Wimbledon College and Borough Polytechnic in London. Chris, his wife, Pauline, and their young children emigrated to Lakeland in 1965 after accepting a chemical engineering job with Wellman Lord. As a professional engineer, he designed phosphate plants in central Florida and around the world. In addition to holding several patents, he received several awards for his work including being honored as ""Hero of the Industry"" by the Regional Phosphate Conference. He continued to provide consulting services while retired. An active member at St. Joseph Catholic Church, Chris (with Pauline) taught classes on marriage preparation and religious education, and led several COR retreats. Chris supported many charities and was active in many community organizations. An avid golfer, he was still working on perfecting his game, playing twice every week. He had a great love and appreciation of nature and shared his knowledge of plants, birds, animals and fossils with his children and grandchildren. He remained active with hiking, sailing, kayaking, and cycling too. Staying busy with many projects, he only sat still when he was reading. A loving father to all of his children, he always had time when his sage advice was needed. He had a special place in his heart for his princess and youngest daughter, Sarah. Chris was predeceased by his youngest son, James Martin Earl. He is survived by his loving wife of 56 years, Pauline, 3 daughters, Christine (Brian) Goding, Susan (Gary) Bieda, and Sarah Earl; 2 sons John (Joy) Earl , Anthony Earl (Susie), brothers: Cyril, Stanley, and John Earl, England and sisters, Marion Clement, Dorothy Longworth of Canada. Grandchildren, Chris, Erin and Andrew Goding, Courtney, Connor, Adam and Emily Bieda, Zachary, Jacob, Adelyn, Ellen, Anthony and John Earl and many nieces and nephews. A viewing and liturgical service will be held at Heath Funeral Chapel on Tuesday, October 21st from 5 - 7pm. A mass of Christian burial will be held at St. Joseph Catholic Church, at 10am on Wednesday, October 22nd, with graveside services to follow.
