Christine Thompson Broughton, 87, went to be with the Lord on Monday, January 6, in Lakeland, due to heart failure. Born in Graniteville, South Carolina, Mrs. Broughton moved to Augusta, Georgia, at age 6, and resided there until 2007. She was a beloved leader of her home church, Crawford Avenue Baptist, where she was a member for more than 75 years. Mrs. Broughton met her late husband, Eddie H. Broughton, in Augusta, and when he passed away in 2009 they had been married for 62 years. Mrs. Broughton was preceded in death by her parents, Claude Dwight and Ida Ruth Thompson, and her husband, Eddie. She is survived by her daughter, Dr. Anne Kerr, her son-in-law, Dr. Roy Kerr, and her grandson, Edward, all of Lakeland; her sister, Mary Elizabeth Short, of Augusta, Georgia; and brother, William Thompson, of North Augusta, South Carolina. A memorial service will be held for Mrs. Broughton at 11 a.m., Thursday, January 9, at First United Methodist Church, 72 Lake Morton Drive, Lakeland, with interment to follow at Oak Hill Cemetery, 4620 U.S. Highway 98 South, Lakeland, Florida.
