Carol Margaret Thomas

Carol (Pat) Thomas Registered Nurse Lakeland " Carol (Pat) Thomas passed away on Tuesday, January 26, 2016. She was born on June 26, 1943, at Methodist Regional Hospital in Brooklyn, NY. Her parents were Peter K. Paterson, formerly of Hamilton, Scotland, and Isobel Dean Paterson, formerly of Donegal, Ireland. She attended the public schools of Brooklyn, NY, and graduated from Methodist Hospital School for Nursing. She received her nursing diploma as a Registered Professional Nurse, on September 13, 1964. Carol married Gilbert F. Thomas on September 12, 1964. They celebrated their 51st anniversary this past September. In 1965, they moved to Detroit, MI. After moving to Lakeland, FL, in 1989, she attended Southeastern University, obtaining a Bachelor of Arts degree in Church Ministry (Missions). Carol was employed by Lakeland Regional Medical Center and then Brandon Regional Medical Center until she was forced to retire three years ago due to ovarian cancer. She was a member of Harvest Assembly of God, Southeastern University Alumni, Daughters of Scotia, Susan Blair Lodge #255, and she attended Wings of Teal " the Ovarian Cancer Support Group. Carol is survived by her husband, Gilbert F. Thomas, and her sister, Judith A. Schieck; three children: Gilbert (Jackie) Thomas, Jr., Peggy (Walter) Elsey, and Jennifer (Robert) Beck; six grandchildren: Mercedes Anderson, Gilbert Thomas III and Jackson Thomas, and Stephanie, Emily and Megan Beck. A viewing will be held on Monday, February 1, 2016, at 12:00 pm with a service following at 1:00 pm at Heath Funeral Chapel, 328 South Ingraham Avenue, Lakeland, FL 33801.
