Carmen R. Abbott, 93 Lakeland " Carmen Abbott was born into a large family in Mayaguez, Puerto Rico. Carmen was the sixth of seven children. She was a modern woman born in the twenties. Her strength of character was evident in everything she said and did. Unlike many women of her time, she knew her own worth. She walked with her head high and enjoyed life within the bounds of decency and respect for herself and others. She was very spiritual and her steadfast faith and love in God was the building block of her identity. She was a devout Catholic and attended Mass every Sunday. She also set aside a portion of her day for private meditation and prayer. Her sense of right and wrong was impeccable. Carmen was an ageless role model to all women. She is preceded in death by her sisters, Anna Castillo, Maria Pena, Ricarda Nazario; brothers, Armando Carlo, and Jose Carlo. She is survived by her brother, Hiram Carlo and his wife, Milka, of New York; nephew, Ernest Castillo; children, Karen Reitano, Burna (Kenneth) Potter, and Phillip Abbott, all of Lakeland, FL; six grandchildren; three great grandsons.
