Betty Powell Carlton Lakeland " Mrs. Betty Powell Carlton of Lakeland died of complications of Parkinson""s disease January 30, 2016. Mrs. Carlton was a licensed social worker, graduating from Florida State University with a master""s degree in Social Work. Her first professional job was at the Florida United Methodist Children""s Home in Enterprise, FL. There she met her future husband, Rev. Dr. Bascom W. Carlton and provided the children at the home with love and support for over 16 years. After she retired from the Children""s Home in the early 1980""s, both Carltons were asked by Catholic Social Services to help start Volunteers in Service to the Elderly and VISTE. There she spent over 11 years as a program director. Mrs. Carlton was preceded in death by her husband, Rev. Dr. Bascom W. Carlton, and grandson Eric W. Carleton. She is survived by her son Dr. Alan Carlton of Lakeland, two step children, Bascom W. Carlton Jr., Lakeland and Evelyn Morehead, Albemarle, NC; five grandchildren and three great-grandchildren. A Visitation will be held on Monday, February 8, 2016 from 5-7 pm in the Tribute Center, at Heath Funeral Chapel, 328 South Ingraham Avenue, Lakeland, FL 33801, with a Graveside service on Tuesday. February 9, 2016 at 10:00 am at Oak Hill Burial Park. Memorials donations can made to VISTE, 1232 E.
