MELBOURNE - Bettie Roberts Vermilya passed away peacefully on December 16, 2020, after a fall and stroke. She was 87 years old. Bettie - or Becky as she was known to friends and family - was as optimistic as they come, and she brought this quality to her roles as wife, mother, grandmother, caregiver and friend. Having known the loss of a parent early on, Bettie was especially thankful for the family she and Keith raised, stating her love for them many times a day. She was grateful for the good friends she made through golf, traveling, mahjong and New Neighbors Club. She marveled that from her roots as a farm girl in Mississippi, she was able to travel the world and that her two children, Scott and Dawn, married wonderful spouses of Asian decent, Dana and Jinyong, giving her “six beautiful grandchildren”. Bettie loved Florida’s sunny weather, beaches and sunsets. Bettie was predeceased by her much loved husband Keith, brothers George “Red” and Grover, and parents, Grover and Susie Roberts. She leaves behind two children, grandkids Diana, Kim, Eric, Isabella, Sophia and Eva, sisters-in-law Mary, Dee and Margie and nieces and nephews. A graveside service is planned for January 16, 2020 at 11am. A celebration of Bettie’s life will be announced in the future.
