Betsy Stockbridge Hope Souppa

Betsy Stockbridge Hope Souppa Teacher 89 Lakeland-Betsy Stockbridge Hope Souppa died on January 21, 2012 of heart failure. She was born June 17, 1922 in Griffin, GA. She is a graduate of Atlanta Girls High School and Georgia State University. She served in the U.S. Navy, W.A.V.E.S. during World War II. She was an elementary teacher in DeKalb County, GA . and at Purcell Elementary School, Polk County. She was a member of the American Association of University Women and the Y.M.C.A. She came to Lakeland in 1971 from Atlanta and was a member of Grace Lutheran Church, Lakeland, having served on the church council, as a Sunday School Teacher, and as church librarian. Mrs. Souppa was preceded in death by her husband, Eric Guy Hope, Jr. of Lakeland, second husband, Ralph A.Souppa, Sr., Lakeland, and brother, Derry Lamar Stockbridge, Jr., Savannah, GA., and sister, Edwina Stockbridge Harkins, Mobile, Al. She leaves to mourn her passing, daughters, Laura H. Carter, Cookeville, TN., & Olivia Hope Gracik, Lakeland, FL, a long-time companion, Brig. Gen. Duncan Hallock, (Ret), Lakeland, step-sons, Ralph A. Souppa, Jr., Swampscott, MA. and Paul Souppa, Naperville, IL., 9 grandchildren, and 12 great grandchildren.
