Ben Bennett Self, Jr.,

Ben Bennett Self Jr., 91, passed away August 19, 2023. Ben was born November 6, 1931, in Alabama, the son of Bessie Bennette Self and Nellie Gertrude Self (Williams). Ben served as a Staff Sergeant in the Air Force during the Korean War. After the service, Ben attended and graduated from Florida State University. Upon graduating, Ben worked for Wyeth Laboratories his entire career, retiring as a pharmaceutical representative.

Ben is preceded in death by his parents, stepfather, George Kinard, three sisters, and wife of 64 years, Laura McNeely Self. He is survived by his sons, Ben (Chip) Bennett Self III (Nancy) and Paul McNeely Self (Catherine), grandsons, Paul McNeely Self II (Nicole) and Colton Laird Self and great grandsons, Paul McNeely Self III (Tripp) and Tucker Raylan Self.

A Christian, Ben was a member of Highlands United Methodist Church for many years. Aside from spending time with friends and family, Ben enjoyed sailing with the Tampa Sailing Squadron and fishing for speckled perch (crappie).

A private memorial service will be held.
