Barbara Lindsey Hayford LAKELAND - Barbara Lindsey Hayford went home to her heavenly father on October 14, 2015. She was born on May 25, 1934, in Peekskill, New York, to William and Ethelda Lindsey. The youngest of four children, she was raised in Dobbs Ferry, New York, and graduated from Dobbs Ferry High School. She attended Plattsburgh State Teachers College for 2 years, transferred to Berkeley Business School and graduated before working for NBC in New York City. She met her husband, Norris Hayford, in the church choir and youth fellowship and they married on June 13, 1955. Barbara joined Norris while he was stationed in the Army at Fort Knox, Kentucky. After Norris"" military service ended, they moved to Lakeland, Florida, where Norris attended Florida Southern College. She was a member of First United Methodist Church of Lakeland for 57 years. Together Barbara and Norris raised five children: Karen (Steve Smittle), David (Patti Hayford), Donald (Julie Hayford), Anne (William Altman), and Linda (Jim Phelps). Barbara was a wonderful mother to her children and loving wife, and she instilled the love of Jesus and family in all her children and others. She enjoyed cooking, gardening, and coffee with her friends, playing games with her grandchildren, and listening to the Velvet Frog. She is survived by her husband of 60 years, Norris, her sister Janet Wilson of Arlington, Vermont, and her five children. She has nine grandchildren and five great grandchildren. A memorial service will be held at a later date.
