Audine Lucille Whitlock

September 24, 1924 — October 24, 2018

Audine Lucille Whitlock Lakeland - Audine Lucille Whitlock passed away Wednesday, October 24, 2018. She was born on September 24, 1924 in Wilmington, Illinois to John and Bernice Phelan. Audine grew up in Peotone, Illinois. She was married to Francis T. Whitlock and they enjoyed 71 wonderful years together…loving, caring, and honoring one another. They had two daughters - Kay (Dan) Welbaum and Sue (Dr. Bill) Latter (the best vet in Lakeland as she would always say), 5 grandchildren and 8 great grandchildren. She was devoted to all her family and they dearly loved her. She had treasured friendships that often spanned over 50 years. Audine was a longtime member of Ridgewood Baptist Church in Joliet, Illinois. She taught Sunday School, headed up Vacation Bible School and Pioneer Girls. She was president of the PTA at her children’s school. She worked as a school secretary. All the children adored her, especially those who frequented the principal’s office. The scavenger hunt she planned for her grandchildren was a big hit, especially when it concluded with free ice cream cones for all. As recent as a couple years ago, you’d find her on the floor and playing cars with the great-grandkids. Audine loved to travel, especially enjoying an Alaskan camping trip and a European trip with her children and grandchildren. She water skied, played volleyball, and even won a rolling pin contest! In recent years, Audine and her husband moved to Florida to be closer to their daughters and their families. Audine was a devout Christian, living every day to follow her Lord and Savior Jesus Christ. Many thanks to Good Shepherd Hospice and to the staff at The Manor! You’ve made a big difference in our lives. Thanks to so many others, friends and family. And most of all to our Heavenly Father!!! Private services were held at Heritage Baptist Church in Lakeland, Florida, their present church home. She was laid to rest at Florida National Cemetery in Bushnell, FL. In lieu of flowers, donations can be sent to Good Shepherd Hospice, 3450 Lakeland Hills Blvd, Lakeland, Fl, 33805 or your favorite charity.
