Alice L. Smith

ALICE L SMITH, 84 LAKELAND - Mrs. Alice L Smith passed away Sept 17, 2011 from complications of Alzheimer's disease. She was surrounded by her children, their spouses, grandson, and caregiver Jackie at the Good Shepherd Hospice. Mrs. Smith was born May 25, 1927 In Dighton. Mass. to Frank and Mary Mendoza. She moved to Hallandale, Fla. where she graduated "most athletic" from South Broward High in 1945. She went to Beauty school and married her beloved husband James A. Smith in 1949. Mrs. Smith was pre-ceded in death by her husband in 1977, parents, and three brothers. She is survived by two sisters, Kay Spina, Marjorie Ingalls (Bryan), three children, Dr. Craig Smith (Debbie), Barbara Sims (Sandy), Janet Hodge (Dr. Byron), three grandchildren, Kristen Laatz (Robert), Darren Smith, Brent Upham, and two great-grandchildren, Gab-by and Natalie Laatz. She spent her lifetime supporting her children and grandchildren in their many activities. She loved her special friend and constant companion Jacqueline. Mrs. Smith attended the Church of the Resurrection in Lakeland and a Mass will be said on Tues, Sep 20th at 11:30 am. Interment will be at Florida National Cemetery in Bushnell.
