Alex Chappell Bryant, Sr. of Lakeland Florida, died peacefully in his sleep Sunday, December 11, 2022. Alex was born in Birmingham, Alabama, in the suburb of Homewood, to Frank Peek Bryant and Susie Emma Chappell Bryant on August 18, 1932.
Alex attended the University of Alabama where he was a member of the Phi Gamma Delta fraternity. While there he met his future wife of 60 years, Jane Shank from Montgomery. AL. Upon completion of his studies, he joined the army and married Jane in 1956. He served as a Secret Message Analyst at the Pentagon for the United States Army before going to work for Bama Foods Company in Birmingham Alabama as a Sales Executive. After Borden Foods bought Bama in 1971, Alex decided to bring his family to Lakeland, FL. He became a partner with a food brokerage company called Nova Sales. After decades of work that he loved, Alex and his partners sold Nova to Acosta Foods brokerage. He went on to partner in two other food brokerage companies, Riteway and ARM.
Alex and Jane spent much of their free time in Boca Grande and Highlands. They also loved traveling the world. Alex was an active member of the First United Methodist Church serving as an usher and a member of the Vanguard Sunday school class. He was a past member of the Lakeland Rotary Club, Lone Palm Golf Club, Lakeland Yacht Club, and The Sixth Man Club. Alex enjoyed an active lifestyle, playing tennis, golf, fishing, running Lake Hollingsworth and volunteering his time with charity golf tournaments. His friends affectionately referred to him as the “Wagon Master” for his ability to get everyone together even when they should be doing other, more important, things.
Alex is survived by his daughter, Cammie Bryant Monroe (Cary) of Eatonton, GA, son Alex Chappell Bryant, Jr. of Lakeland, FL, Granddaughter, Kayla Bryant Wallner and Great Granddaughter Madeline Jane Wallner of Lakeland, FL.
