Hilda Leah Singer

Hilda Leah Singer, 92 Longwood- Hilda Leah Singer, age 92, of Longwood, Florida and long time resident of Storrs, Connecticut, passed on April 11, 2015 of natural causes with long time friend and aide, Amey Wilkins by her side. Hilda was preceded by her husband, Morris, brother, Fabian Glassman and sister, Rhoda Elster. She is survived by her sons, Lawrence and his wife, Bonnie, and Paul and his wife, Sarah of Lakeland, FL, grandson, Dana and his wife, Audra and great granddaughter, Camden Isabelle Singer of Orlando, FL. As well as the two women who called her Mom, Rhonda Ovist and Amey Wilkens. Hilda held a master""s degree in social work from the University of Berkeley, CA and a bachelors degree from Hunter College, NY. She had a passion for helping people, which continued on after ending her career as a social worker at Rockville High School in Rockville, CT. Upon retirement, she helped seniors with their Medicare/Medicaid programs. She was active in the Senior Center and local politics in Storrs, CT. She initiated a speaker series and became president of the resident""s association at her retirement community at Brookdale in Longwood. Mrs. Singer was always generous. She consistently contributed money to a number of causes and was always willing to give of her time to help others. A fact that is proven by the number of people who have said that, ""She made a big difference in my life, I will never forget her."" A memorial service is scheduled for Saturday, May 2, Brookdale Island Lake, 160 Islander Court, Longwood, FL at 11 am. In lieu of flowers, please make a donation to your local public radio station.
