Allen C. Brock Director of Produce – Publix Super Markets Lakeland – Allen C. Brock passed away Saturday, February 17, 2018. He was born September 11, 1934, in Buffalo, NY to the proud parents of Charles and Viola Brock. Allen was a member of the First United Methodist Church, Lake Morton. He had an AAS degree from Alfred State College in New York State, graduated Sigma Tau Epsilon Honor Society. Allen served in the U.S. Army from 1957-1960 as a special agent in the 109th Counter Intelligence Corp. He was a proud member of the “Publix family”, starting in 1960 as a produce clerk, 1961 promoted to produce manager, 1968 promoted to produce buyer and moved to Lakeland headquarters, 1970 promoted to director of produce operations; Lakeland Division. Allen retired in June of 1991, with 31 years’ service. Al not only has a love for Publix but a love for the produce industry on a state and national level. Some of his state awards include: 1985 & 1986 – Florida Garden Fresh Promotion Award, 1985 – Florida Cracker Award, 1987 – Florida Citrus Packers & Exceptional Service Award, 1988 – All Florida Advertising Campaign Award. Some of his National Awards include: 1975 – Packer -Red Book “Produce Man of Distinction & Produce Merchandising “Man of the Year” Award, 1981 – Produce Man of the Year Award (the only two-time recipient of this award), 1991 – Fresh Approach Achievement Award. Al was also recognized for his dedicated service to the produce industry in the “Century of Produce Book” (1893 – 1993) He also served in the produce industry on a national level, 1973 – 1975 -Board of Directors – Produce Marketing Association, 1976-1978 – Board of Directors- United Fresh Fruit and Vegetable Association (UFFVA), 1980 – Chairman of the Board- UFFVA, 1981 – Chairman of the Executive Committee – UFFVA, 1980-1991- Working with the National Produce Advertising approach program as UFFVA. Allen loved God, his family, his country, Publix and the Produce Industry. His most loved hobby was spoiling his wife, Dee, and after her passing, spoiling his daughters, Karen and Kathy. He loved planting over 200 annuals in his yard every year, fishing, bowling, reading novels, and going out to dinner and on vacation trips with Kathy, Karen and his son in laws, Bobby and Charlie, they traveled with the name “The Fab Five” Allen said his best years and memories are of retirement with Dee; traveling, beach bumming, fishing, bowling, tennis, and just being together 24/7 and now again forever in love and peace. He is preceded in death by the love of his life and best friend, his wife “Dee”, his brother, Ralph, and sister in law, Ann. Allen is survived by his loving, caring, and devoted twin daughters, Kathy (Bobby), Karen (Charlie), and their children, Christopher, Courtney (Jesus), Joshua (Jessica), and Jeremy, two step grandchildren, three step great grandchildren and numerous cousins, nephews and nieces. Memorial service will be held Thursday, February 22, 2018 at 11am at First United Methodist Church, 72 Lake Morton Drive, Lakeland, FL 33801.
